That’s my hope for him, that he’ll at least grow into his head! Most cats around here have at least some Maine Coon cat in their dna, so it’s likely.
Also, sorry to derail the thread. If you can’t tell, I’m kind of obsessed with my new fostering hobby. We lost our sweet cat, Myrtle in the fall and aren’t ready for a full-on new pet yet, but this is proving to be a great way to have cats in our lives and house again. And an awesome way to help out. I’m trying to think of our house as a rejuvenating spa retreat before the critters find their forever homes, but if this guy is any indicator, bringing them back is going to be…oof!
Oh, I feel that!
There are worse things than a foster fail (from the person with four cats, who used to have a hard rule of three max, but then we babysat our neighbor’s foster kitten).
I never thought about it before, but – duh! – newborn rhinos don’t have horns yet:
Not sure what was going on her but Mrs. Mallard quacked and quaked until the robin finally left.
And Mr. Squirrel was up early getting some fresh air before it starts raining.
We don’t get those black squirrels down here but damn are they cute critters!
We used to have grey and red squirrels in our yard but the last few years they’ve all been black.
Mama Kitty and boyfriend Botas. I don’t know where the bread came from, unless the birbs transported it.
The kitties brought it as a thank you? “Humans like this crap. Let’s take it to that nice person who feeds us.”
We once watched the tortoises in Red Rock Visitor Center and they acted similarly. They are so single-minded. They’d walk right up to other tortoises and try to push them out of their way on their way to wherever. I didn’t know they could be so feisty.
(Side note: I currently have a group of raccoons partying on the roof. It sounds like they’re either dancing or having crazy sex. )
My godfather had a pet turtle that roamed his house like a cat or dog. He had it from the sixties until sometime in the 80s. I never new what happened to it but was loved like any other house pet.
A few years ago we were at a small nature center in Florida, they had a large area where you could walk with birds and various other animals. The birds would land on your shoulder or head and nibble your ears.
As we were walking we heard a loud moaning sound that I can’t describe. As we walked around a bend we ran into this couple. It went on for quite some time. I took a picture and then gave them their privacy.
Drama in the back yard.
The female duck has been in the yard for a full day. A cooper’s hawk flew down and tried to pick it off, but since they are the same size the attack was unsuccessful
Here is the duck in the water bath, with the hawk on the fence behind the feeders, moments after the attack (and just before attempt #2). The hawk flew off afterward
We always know when a hawk is nearby because the birds retreat to a safe distance.
The neighbors know there is a hawk because my wife is in the yard making noises to scare the hawk away.
This photo is going to get crossposted in the crafting topic once we finish these. He’s been having some bad days but he still likes to help until he gets tuckered out and then just stops and goes to sleep.
I went out to get some photos of the annoying woodpecker trying to attract a mate and this guy poked his head out to see who was making all the noise. He’s going to need a new house soon but I haven’t seen a deposit for the lumber order yet.
