Very hard to get into, we’ve funded a new wing with all the cats over the years and we can’t get in any sooner than anyone else.
We have two vets we use, one is 30 days the other is two weeks. Before covid we could get in the same day or the next day at the latest.
The hospital she’s at now is great. They came out to the car immediately and took kitty right in.
She’s got an IV with antiseizure drugs and they’ve started running tests.
The only trouble doing it this way is it costs 3 to 5 times a vet visit.
Thank God we can afford it but I can’t imagine having a pet and due to all the crap in the world not be able to afford to get it treated.
It’s also very difficult to decide when to stop treatment especially for a cat this old.
Now we wait.
All that being said if there is any way you can swing an adoption that would be awesome for whatever animal you gave a home. The rewards far outweigh the bad stuff.
Welp, she’s spending 24 hours at the hospital. They gave her a blanket and she hid under it.
They ruled out the easily treated stuff which leaves us with brain problems that probably won’t get diagnosed because the only remaining possibilites can’t be fixed.
If the drugs work she comes home with 3 times a day medication.
They are frequent visitors to my yard and they also enjoy eating the berries of the ivy. In the Spring they sing their long and changing song, starting very early in the morning. They are handsome and cool birds. Form the book:
'Mockingbirds don’t do one thing but make music for us to enjoy…but sing their hearts out for us. That’s why it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird."
She’s back home. Based on ruling things out it’s a brain tumor or lesion. We can pursue it with a neurologist but there is nothing they can do for anything they find so we follow up in a couple weeks to check to make sure the medication is at the proper level in her blood.
The medication is 3 times a day for the rest of her life but as of now she’s not in pain and she’s acting fine, no seizure in close to 24 hours.
She did need a bath because she peed in her carrier all the way home.
Haha! No, but his head is huge compared to his little body. I think if he hadn’t been so malnourished he’d be a big guy. He’s 2 years old, for reference.
The shelter dubbed him “Fezco” but I think he’s either a Frankie or a Max…
He’s settling in, but I just picked him up yesterday. Poor guy is skin and bones, big head, and oddly luxuriant tail.
He’s got all kind of battle scars. He’s missing a claw from one paw and some of his other toe beans make me think he was out in the winter
I can’t imagine what kind of life he’s had that he’s been through all that but is still a super sweetheart. Shelter said he was found as a stray, but I can’t imagine no one is looking for this guy. I hope the pics a couple weeks from now show a plumped out little kitty
The floof makes it hard to tell he’s still skinny, poor guy. He might grow too. If he is a big breed, or a weirdo like Ravus, they can keep growing between 2-3 years. I think Ravus took on another inch in height during that time, as measured from base of tail to floor
