Apparently there’s some progress being made on the bail front:
The district attorneys for Manhattan and Brooklyn have announced that their offices will no longer seek bail for most non-felony cases, allowing defendants to be released on their own recognizance rather than sit in jail or fork over big sums of cash while awaiting trial for crimes deemed less serious.

Out of admittedly very cynical curiosity, what percentage of the people they help skip bail and how does it compare to normal bail jumpers?
Perhaps if the prosecution is on the hook for covering bail-bondsman fees (as applicable) in the event of an acquittal, bail would be reduced to some more reasonable levels.
