yeah not sure what is but it’s definitely a unicode character in that post, it’s even in the URL: https://boingboing.net/2022/03/26/free-frisco-fresco-.html

Unicode character lookup says

Moderation related, but about the mechanics, not the moderation.

I just noticed that some posts got moderated out of the Commie Memes thread, but the replies did not and now just show up as posts rather than responses - is this new? I expected my reply to vanish with the OP

That was addressed here.

Thanks! I guess it happens when the account is deleted rather than just the flagged post being removed. I think it’s fine for most of the responses, since they were in pro-socialist meme form. I’ll probably delete mine though

Anybody getting screens that look like this?

Basically the centre “replies” column overrides everything else as you scroll. The links at the top of the screen don’t work (BBS, BB, etc.) Quotes don’t usually work at all, sometimes they show as seen here.

Reloading the page sometimes works, at other times it’s necessary to restart the browser (Firefox, Windows 10). Is this a bug in Discourse?

Frequently. I assume it’s because i use noscript and certain embeds like imgur, twitter etc break the layout if the script isn’t allowed. Once i do and the page reloads it’s fine. You would think that navigating to a different thread without such embeds would resolve it but it doesn’t, when i look at the noscript dropdown i see the offending script is still there even though the embeds aren’t present so requires a manual refresh. I’m also using Firefox.

Thanks. That may be it. I do use noscript, but I haven’t been able to pin down what triggers the problem. At one point it seemed that attempting to reply in a particular topic was the cause, which would be consistent with what you say.

When I asked the question I had been trying to get rid of the problem for some time, and nothing was working, not even closing Firefox and restarting.

It has definitely gotten worse though which could well be due to changes with the noscript extension but I’m on another BBS which uses Discourse and don’t see this happening. However, it has far less traffic and use of embeds so the two aren’t necessarily comparable. I do think if there was a page refresh every time I navigate to a different thread I’d encounter this less often.

The [OBJ] returns!!!

The obj is 100% a character that is in that string. How it got there, I do not know, but I can tell you it is not being added by Discourse…

Is there any way to nominate a post for a positive badge? I have seen so many posts that really deserve a “Pedant Pedant” badge, but so few people actually ever get the badge.

Some would argue that’s not meant to be a badge of honor. Nevertheless, one of these days I hope to earn it.

I sure want one. And Irregular too!

Lol, ditto.

Every time I try to be irregular, it’s either illegal, immoral or fattening.

Or some combination of the 3?
