After Germany’s defeat in WW 1, against all reason, the Stab-In-The-Back myth took hold: Germany could have won, had not it been betrayed from within and without by traitors and Jewish conspiracy. And it wasn’t just the loons and conspiracy theorists (and Hitler) who took on the theory but major conservative politicians (they created the myth after all).
This new Stab-In-The-Back myth will be canon in the Republican Party. And it’s going to be with us for decades.
