From the article:

New York Congressional Rep. Gregory Meeks . . . . slammed Sens. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., and Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., for endorsing Cabán without consulting leaders of the machine. The move, he said, was “arrogant” and “patronizing.”

From Wikipedia:

Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) named Meeks one of the most-corrupt members of Congress in 2011.

as a lifelong (dem) resident of queens, i welcome the change. the democratic machine has a long history of putting forward politicians that wind up embarrassing the boro. they had better get with the program. this ain’t the same old queens anymore.

With America’s odd system of having the District Attorney as an elective office, this is great progress.

The political logic of “tough on crime gets votes” has inspired some truly awful things so any evidence that the cycle can be broken is welcome indeed.
