I think they’re really afraid of themselves and of being found out.
LGBTQ+, drag queens, and others that they deem “deviants” are already out and proud and not ashamed of who they are (and should not be ashamed!) and have nothing to hide, therefore nothing to “be found out”. Which I think frightens and shames the GOP even more that others have that courage, and they do not.
FUD (Fear, Understand, Doubt) has been the GOP/GQOP playbook for geez, 40+ years now, and does not further the human endeavor, it just keeps those spineless assholes in power.

I am always amused by their attempts to insult Pete Buttigieg with their typical coded implications that he is a homosexual. They are really at a loss as to how they can insult those who are openly gay. Kind of like Trump insulting women as forceful and unladylike they just expect everybody have the same visceral dislike of them.
