Raccoon leaves his trash-eating pals to hang with the kitties

I’ll admit to having a sneaking admiration for the resourceful little bastards, but I still keep my green bin in the garage until the morning of garbage day.

I hope you don’t mind if I post a tl;dr to your linked article. To me this says it all.

Wow. One of them is eating very well. Sheesh, he’s like a little ball of racoon

From the writeup, it’s probably a mother and kits, but yeah, Toronto trash pandas are lardasses compared to those in the wild. Add that to the fact that they always look as if their skin is several sizes too big, and they are about as far from the sleek kitties as you can get.

We don’t have a garage… we leave it full of dog poop and kitty litter, and only put our (small carrier bag) of organic waste in it the morning of pickup. So we don’t have a problem. The neighbors, however, have a regular racoon buffet going on in their back yard. They are crafty little buggers!

and then there’s this lady who just circumvents the whole green bin issue by feeding them directly. Sigh. Takes all kinds I suppose.

This discussion reminded me of the documentary film Grey Gardens, by the Maysles brothers (1975), where Edith Bouvier Beale and Edith ‘Little Edie’ Bouvier Beale feed the raccoons that live in their roof, but I can’t seem to find a clip.
