From one of my favorite LPs:
Weird. One of my favorite records is “Wack Wack” by the Young-Holt Trio, recorded the year after this one. Wonder why they split from Lewis?
I love me anything the Ramsey Trio does…BUT…in this instance I actually feel Gregory Porter tops them.
The flip side to the 45 of Hang On Sloopy. This is the song that proved to me that Ramsey Lewis was great to listen to even when he wasn’t covering pop hits.
I love the whole vibe of that recording.
Listened to it this AM again.
Thanks Jason!
One of the all time great ‘Soul jazz’ records! Throw this on the playlist while you’re at it…
Needed this to start this day of better!
I discovered this delightful recording because of its place in my very favorite sequence from “Casino”
–immediately followed by Dobie Gray’s equally wonderful version at 0:51. Enjoy!
The Ramsey Lewis version is the definitive version, but Gregory Porter puts a whole new dimension on it
