Have you heard the Robert Glasper version? It’s my favorite jazz version, actually:
I prefer Charlie Hunter Trio’s Come As You Are:
Still following the Loud Quiet Loud formula, I see.
THIS is AWFUL!
Yes… I am all for covers and versions, and strange ideas often sounds great on paper… but this didn’t work for me at all.
Thanks, but The Bad Plus version is still my favorite jazz cover of SLTS: https://youtu.be/xyilbV0OrMQ
A strong thumbs down for the version Pesco likes, but I have always loved the Bad Plus cover of Teen Spirit.
Thought I’d love it, and it started pretty well, but nope. Not for me.
Tori’s version is one of my favorite covers of this track.
Add me to the list of not really feeling this version. (Though I seem to be in the minority in that I thought it improved as it went along; intro was way too mellow for me.)
My favourite jazz cover of it still remains The Bad Plus’s version:
It amuses me that this song seems to be fast becoming a modern jazz standard, what with the number of covers out there.
Yeah, the alto player isn’t ready for prime time. A passable imitation of Kenny Garrett’s tone, at first, but his solo was incredibly uncomfortably executed. The pianist’s solo was barely more competent, and left a similar impression that she was trying to play more notes than she was really ready to play.
I do love jazz interprations of rock tunes, though. Other than the ones mentioned by others, the many Radiohead covers (particularly by Brad Mehldau) are favorites of mine.
This is enough to make the original author want to blow his brains out.
What, too soon?
I prefer the muppets version. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RCHutVrGsZY
