Hedge funds.
A year ago I might have said short-selling stocks.
Today I say, refusing vaccinations for other than medical reasons.
What astonished me when I did the same thing, was the sheer number of trackers that particular site installed, and rather sketchy ones at that. I installed Privacy Badger, and oh my goodness, it just about exploded.
A lot of what we’re listing here are just annoyances. But things mentioned in the post like civil forfeiture and child beauty pageants really should be abolished. They not only don’t serve any good purpose they are prone to abuse.
There are aspects of the stock market that should be abolished or more heavily regulated: If you’re pushing a derivative that relies on people losing their houses for it to profit then something is wrong.
Civil Asset Forfeiture is a scourge and needs to be abolished immediately if not sooner.
There are some good suggestions on the list, including civil forfeiture and torture (the latter effectively having been made legal by failing to prosecute anyone for it).
But besides those: you can actually, legally, buy an election in the U.S. Since Citizens United, there are no limits on political contributions from corporations and other groups. Furthermore, you can use PACs and “dark money” organizations to shield from the public any knowledge of who is contributing. The cost of Presidential campaigns now runs to billions of dollars in the U.S. A good part of those dollars come in the form of opaque contributions from wealthy private interests.
Actually I was thinking of people who actually worked and didn’t rely on just interest or dividends or whatever. Except maybe in retirement.
Oh, yes. Make golden parachutes illegal.
I didn’t have my son snipped, even though I am (culturally) Jewish. My parents were sad, though understanding. I don’t regret the choice, but I do get pangs of worry every so often that he will decide he wants to really explore his ancestry and will be prevented from doing so until he gets snipped.
