Rep. John Lewis, 1940-2020

THAT is what a worthy recipient of that medal looks like.

Rush Limbaugh getting that award is a fucking joke and a travesty

A reminder that the best way to honour John Lewis isn’t simply to vote. It’s to pressure your representatives any way you can to make things better for everyone. Get in “good trouble” or if you can’t, find a way to support those who can.

Simply saying “Vote” in a time when the very people he fought to get that opportunity for are having it stripped away doesn’t do a lot to honor a man who literally got his head beaten in to earn that opportunity, not just for himself, but for everybody.

Well, so is the guy who gave it to him, so…

It strikes me that Trump probably saw giving Limbaugh the medal as a tit-for-tat kind of thing… he doesn’t seen someone like Lewis as a national hero who improved all our lives, but as a partisan working for only Black people… and Limbaugh as a partisan for whites… :woman_shrugging:

That does make sense, in a twisted and nauseating sort of way.

Sadly… it fits with his both sides comment about Charlottesville, too. I’d argue that at least some faction of white people who don’t openly identify as white supremacists view things that way, too.

I just noticed that Vermont PBS is running “John Lewis: Get in the Way”, a documentary about him.

I don’t recall seeing this listed before, so I’m not sure if it’s hitting PBS now, or just rebroadcasted because of his death.

So check your local PBS station to see if it’s on the schedule. If not, maybe it’s worth asking that they air it.
