Rep. Marjorie Taylor Green does not know what socialism is

This exactly. What they say literally has no basis in reality, nor does it even pretend to. It’s ALL performative.

The cost has gone up because of the cost of shipping containers and a scarcity in that direction, not because manufacturers have just decided to charge more.

We have had domestic supply issues directly related to covid. For example our window supplier was down two production lines in order to facilitate social distancing.

Most of the new Poulteriffic Infrastructure I built last year was made with Norwegian wood. (Isn’t it good?) Blows my mind that we’re surrounded by pine trees, yet pulling SPF lumber from a country halfway around the world with higher wages.

It’s not just property developers. Aside from people at home jumping on projects. Nearly every government entity has been rushing to get to long put off projects where ever and to whatever extent that they can. People are off the roads, schools were closed, most places missed their seasonal busy period.

There was opportunity to get stuff done, some level of federal funding, and ramping up public works kept a lot of people working.

My whole area has been in agressive road work, tree trimming, rebuild and improve the parks building, fix the god damn schools mode since this time last year.

Everyone I know in the trades has been swamped with jobs. Either government contracts, or private jobs for those well enough off to hire out improvement work. A whole hell of a lot of work for restaurants as well.

Yet some people here keep trying to act like they are seriously engaging on a political level. There is literally nothing there but hate and trying to tear everything down so the rest of us suffer. That’s all.

Heh, yes, if we redefined “socialism” to mean “profiteering,” socialism would indeed suck.

I think it is important to remember that not knowing what socialism is… is actually a desired state in this case.

If pressed, any of these people will admit they don’t want to understand these concepts. They believe, devoutly, that being exposed to ideas causes one to be tainted by, or worse, to accept those ideas. That’s why they oppose real education. They don’t want informed choices to be available. They don’t want a choice to be available at all.

Greene would never study socialism; her outward response would be “Why would I want to study a failed concept?” and her internal response would be panicked fear that her model of the universe might be changed.

Would that be National Socialism?
Asking for a friend…?

I’m liking what you did there! :clap:t2::tophat::rofl:

Yup - keep the proles ignorant then you can run rings around them and bury them in the dust you’re making.

Nationalist Antisocialism, totally different thing. Totally different. Well, okay, mostly different?

I’ve seen Trump people say Jeff Bezos is a radical socialist because the newspaper he owns would occasionally write unflattering stories about Trump.

Well, at least you now know who’s opinions to ignore entirely going forward.

In my view, it appears what she believes is happening is that supply is down because she thinks the government is paying people to stay home instead of producing building materials and consumer goods. She is attributing these increased prices to shrinking supply. She may understand the laws of supply and demand, but is applying her fantastical view of reality to the case. That’s almost worse.

45 was paying farmers rather a lot to not grow soybeans for China. Hey, I should be getting some of that sweet cash. I’m not growing soybeans right now.

That wouldn’t bother trump. He has no political ideology beyond “I am the greatest. Everyone else exists only to serve me.”

For them, Socialism is not a system of government or economics; it’s a state of mind. Like being on the Mary Jane.

Thing is, she has access to all the same information we all have, and more. There’s no reasonable explanation for her to believe those things, because the gov’t hasn’t been paying people to stay home. :woman_shrugging:t2:
I think it’s generous to try to give people the benefit of the doubt, but when they show you what they are, believe them. She has showed us.

Me, neither! We’re gonna be rich!

Sometimes I feel like I would like to try to explain concepts like market socialism to Republicans, even though it would be like explaining quantum physics to a very vocal goldfish.

At last. Someone who actually gets Keynes.

Can we be best friends and go on adventures together?
