“The war on drugs was . . . based on faulty reasoning and faulty science, and it hurt communities that definitely didn’t deserve it.”
How is this guy still calling himself a Republican?
I mean, at the end he does talk about making this bill more pro-business by allowing vertical integration (which can lead to monopolistic behavior), and decries social equity parts of the bill as “woke,” saying it’s “unfair,” but yeah.
Because the very next words out of his mouth were, “We fixed a lot of those problems over the years,” which is completely delusional.
Because the communities that were hurt were white male college students that got caught. And they definitely didn’t deserve (checks notes) community service.
Because he still didn’t say the real reasons, which were racism, cultural control and to create a political weapon. “Faulty” implies that there was a genuine effort to treat a social issue, but they just didn’t have the correct information. They knew everything they needed to and Nixon literally threw it in the trash can.
ppffft.
You really wanna appeal to the Republicans?
Two words: “Tax. Revenue”
Yup. I was all surprised and delighted til we got to the ‘well, obviously very rich white people should run it’ subtext at the end there.
Wat? The war on drugs keeps police and private prisons in business. Is this guy anti-police and anti-business?
