I’m thinking that would make a great ‘The Onion’ article even today. “China sends humanitarian aid to West Virginia, since they can’t take care of their own people.”
Reality seems to have been outstripping The Onion over the past year.
Look closer to home…
I honestly think that the plan is to just shift the tax burden down to the poor, preferably in the form of various fines, penalties, and surcharges so that they can say there’s no taxes even as the burden soars.
Works great in Singapore, I hear from wealthy Singaporeans.
That’s the thing. For the wealthy, it works brilliantly.[1] And, crucially, invisibly. Since, of course, the police can pick and choose where and how sternly they enforce various ordinances, laws, and the like. And if someone should complain the wealthy can just shrug and say “Well, don’t break the law, then? I never do, and I don’t pay a cent. See, if only the poor would learn to save and manage their money, we could all be wealthy.”
[1] Right up to the point they get beheaded.
