Russian law would ban "ideology of childlessness"

Let’s see… given enough power, who else might do something like this?

I can see this being used like the three-article-rules to attack the queer. You bet this would be selectively enforced.

I have long suspected (and I am not alone on this) that the official figures of population in Russia are severely inflated

I don’t believe is 145 million, mainly for the reasons you have commented. Some commentators believe is closer to 100 million, that also might be an exaggeration but definitely the numbers don’t add up

If you take into consideration life expectancy, physical and mental healthcare, and the fact that apparently russian women do not want to have kids and bear the brunt of raising them, the conclusion is clear

Add to all of this the endemic corruption of the russian bureaucracy and their tendency to falsify records

The fact they are recruiting from africa (and more recently north korea) to fight in Ukraine tells me they don’t have the huge reserves of manpower they claim

What I don’t know is how aware is Putin of the situation, buy these types of laws they are passing seems to indicate he knows russia is on a demographic death spiral

And he is mainly responsible, with the potential they have in raw materials, gas and oil, russia could have 400 million inhabitants with the standard of living of Finland

Do you have any links on inflation of population totals? I know that China has an issue of local government overstating the numbers in order to get increased education and welfare funds from central government, is this a problem in Russia too?

I know anecdotally from a friend who worked in the oil industry that there are a lot of Kazakh and Tajik workers in Russia, who might well go home if there’s a risk of being swept up in conscription.

I used to think that the way to win the war in Ukraine was to kill so many Russian boys that their mothers and wives would rise up against Putin. But I was wrong. Putin just gathered up a load of non-Russian boys to tip into the mincer. I think he thinks he can make Ukraine run out of bullets before he runs out of cannon fodder.

He thinks that he can make Ukraine run out of cannon fodder first. Russian war supporters love to condemn Zelensky for throwing soldiers into futile “meat assaults” to postpone defeat in an unwinnable war.
