Say goodbye to Uncle Ben, Mrs. Buttersworth, and the Cream of Wheat chef

Maybe instead of psychologically manipulating people, it’s better to make a good product? :woman_shrugging: Rise above on quality instead of packaging?

But packaging is so much cheaper and easier to produce. :stuck_out_tongue:

Because the advertising is the soul of trade. It’s not manipulating people, but make people find easily your product.

Case in point the Melegatti Pandoro, ithe previous owners made some wrong marketing choices including changint the packaging, making a brown package instead of the iconic blue and gold one. They got bankrupt, and the factory, with the brand was bought at a foreclosure by another company, that the first thing dist was going back to the old packaging and reusing the old jingle they used in the '80.

I must disagree. Advertising and marketing is absolutely manipulating people. Packaging is what makes people easily find your product; one is led to it by the manipulation of marketing and advertising.

Human beings managed to trade goods for literally centuries before marketing came along, with out all the shitty emotional manipulation. We really don’t need to emotionally connect with a product to find it useful and buy it, or to make and sell products. If someone needs to manipulate you into doing something, then maybe they’re not on the up and up. :woman_shrugging:

You should look up this documentary, which gives a good overview of how marketing has changed in the past century and a quarter or so…

It used to be on youtube, but you can probably find it elsewhere, too.

Yet, they managed NOT to have racist images or even people on the products, yeah? There is a big difference between brand recognition and emotional manipulation.

Advertising and marketing are absolutely psychological manipulation; there’s a reason companies spend so much money and energy on data mining every year.

Like, pretty much by definition.

If you weren’t trying to manipulate people there wouldn’t be any point to doing it at all.
