School: Please don't throw your children over the gate when they are tardy

I hope so. I doubt it though. Congress appears to actually hate exercising their authority.

There was a family with elementary age kids in VA USA that was chronically “just a few minutes late.” According to state law, the principal had to report the family to the state and the parents got fined. The lawyer husband was incredulous- whining about “it’s just a few minutes.”

Fine, be flexible, sure, but on other hand two classrooms full of kids had to deal with it every time the lawyer’s kids were late. The teacher has everyone settled and starts the class, then the late kid walks in, distracting everyone while they unpack and wave and whisper, and then the teacher has to start the lesson over. Do that 3 days a week for the same kid for two months and you’d be thinking about a locking gate.

It seems like lots of school rules get created for the “exceptional people” who can’t just cooperate and show consideration for others.

And in a related topic, I would bet $10 the kids were being driven to school by a parent, not catching a school bus.

What is that, math for hats? (I saw one rather large hat at a tea party that had a division problem on it. 10/6 I think.)

But it’s a school day. Where are they supposed to throw them?

Perhaps a chapter of the local dwarf tossing team would be interested in practicing with the late-comers

I had to drive my daughter to a magnet school for a few years. There was a bus but it left an 90 min earlier, which meant a lot less sleep for everyone.

I could count on one hand the number of times we were late due to traffic or really bad weather. Being late the first two times meant going into the office where I was directed to a small table where I filled out an official excuse note.

Being late the other times meant pulling the excuse note pad I had swiped out of my glove compartment and having my daughter fill it out as we got to the school.

My dad is one of those chronically late people, and used to be my transportation to school. I was once almost denied sitting a final exam because my dad was late to get us dropped off. I am now highly anxious any time I’m late, or for that matter, just on-time. I need to be at appointments like 15 minutes early or I’m a nervous wreck and am always the annoying person who shows up at parties at the time on the invite. I hope that lawyer’s kids are spared the same fate.

I was going to suggest a crowbar or explosives.

It is clearly much safer to wear your child as you climb over the fence.

Growing up i was always blase about being slightly late but as an adult i’ve become a person that needs to be on time or early otherwise i get way too anxious (Airports are not fun for me). On the party side i would recommend directly asking people throwing the party when they’d prefer you to actually show up, otherwise they should expect you at the specified time. This has worked great for me in the past, but you can also ask a friend when they intend to show up and time your arrival with theirs.

That sounds like a bunch of people arranged themselves into a functioning catapult.

A kid-a-pult?

It’s a five hour epic split into two films. So there are multiple dance numbers.
