This is very cool, but at the risk of being too grumpypants, “Nature abhors sharp corners” is more poetry than true statement. Nature does a lot of 2D tessellation with sharp corners.

Yeah, what about crystals? Pyrite can form near perfect cubes.

This could make for some interesting building materials for earthquake resilience. A material that has equal shearing strength in all directions must be grail-like.
