Yikes, judging by the covers to those books, Craik should be done for “Accessory in the Murder of Graphic Design”.

That phrasing is a bit off. He wasn’t going trying to lead the party, he was just trying to be selected as the party candidate for one of the ~650 seats in Westminster.
It’s a stupid reason to rule him out for, but at least that means fans of his writing won’t be faced with a possible 5 year hiatus in his writing.
He was in the running to be selected as the Labour candidate for Glenrothes in the next general election, not the party leader. As much as I hate the guy, I think that Keir Starmer is more qualified to be party leader.
Not having the guts to keep people like this is why the UK will never be free of the Tories.

While we’re on the subject of (ex)MPs writing books, I noticed the other day that convicted liar Jeffery Archer is still pumping out books. I suppose ‘lying’ is one of those things which is frown upon in most contexts, but is technically the heart of fiction writing.
