This makes sense. It seems a little troubling that people, and doctors in particular, are surprised that “ye olde timey” scurvy is still around, since it is in fact a severe vitamin deficiency that doesn’t just go away because we understand what it is now. A lot of people don’t have regular access to proper nutrition.
Trust me, there are a hell of a lot of “old timey” maladies i was taught in med school were of historical interest only, but are suddely quite relevant. I hate it with a passion, but it’s a fact.
I had it as a teen in the mid-80’s… essentially my crap diet of breakfast cereal, fast food, and whatever else was cheap and easy for me to cook myself… had a almost total lack of Vit C. This was in during the great 80’s Divorce craze when relatively youngish parents, found themselves single and at the same time with teens that could “take care of themselves”… party on.
I was otherwise healthy, as I played a lot of sports, etc etc… so a correct diagnosis and more fruit/supplements quickly resolved it.
vitamin c add it to your water it neutralizes the chloramines used to disinfect virtually all tap water.
