1000-1 doesn’t seem very generous odds for Johnson to me. I’d like to see what the election map looks like for the simulation runs where he wins.

Yes! Because the mainstream of the GOP is extreme right already. Some of the never trumpers dislike him because he’s taken sane stances on social issues in the past… it’s precisely why he picked Pence, because he appeals to the right wing religious part of the party (anti-gay, anti-woman, etc).
The ENTIRE GOP seems to be mostly made up extremist of one kind or another… or at least the most vocal contingent of them.
