Self-insurer Walmart flies its sick employees to out-of-state specialists to avoid local price-gougers

Didn’t Kaiser Permanente sort of get their start with a focus on industrial workers? It’s quite the behemoth today, and a non-profit, to boot. The way I see this organization, they are positioning themselves for when the day comes that the US actually does have some sort of nationalized health coverage. I’m sure that the non-Repub President and Congress of that future day will look to KP for help in implementation.

Coincidentally, if you’re a Canadian traveling to the US and purchase emergency medical insurance for the trip (you absolutely always should) and get into an accident, they will provide a medical airlift out of the United States back to Canada at the first moment you’re stable. It’s far cheaper to do that than let you stay one more day in an American hospital.
