If you want a cure for insomnia you can read the whole tax plan here:
Given that he literally bragged about being the first President who’d profit from the job, yeah, I can see him being a fan of this bill.
Personal experiance puts the first to get cut to be social programs like you speak of, plus aid for the disabled, grnats and other funding to give disabled and minorities a hand up so they aren’t a drag on their families (assuming their families are either able or willing to shoulder that burden. Mine is… and by that logic my stepdad is under the belief of 'disabled and elderly should be taken care of by reletives. No he wasn’t being sarcastic. That is his complete sincere belief on how things ‘should’ be.)
So I expect to be further disincintivized from trying to find employment while being held up as show of a ‘lazy bum who gets a free ride off the government dime’ come time to demonize anyone on social security… or at least I would be if I were brown. I am not nor am I a woman so I can’t be held up as a boogyman mooching by way of popping kids to get a free ride from joe taxpayer.
Grumble.
It’s really refreshing to see people outright admit they are just trying to get a win, and damn the consequences.
Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) on Sunday said the decision to include a provision in the Republican tax plan that would personally enrich some GOP lawmakers and President Donald Trump came from an effort to “cobble together the votes we need to get this bill passed.”
Now that’s what I call quality lawmaking.
A great read on this shit show.
They aren’t even trying to hide their agenda here anymore.
I used to joke when I was a kid how by the time I got to retirement age there would be no more social security or Medicare for me to use (I was a weird kid).
Now I’m absolutely terrified by this prospect, and more than a little angry at all the money I’ve put into these programs over my life through taxes that I’ll never be able to use for myself.
Well, fuck.
And as a bonus this tax bill opens up ANWR for exploitation. Lovely.
Fuck all these lying and self serving scumbags that made this shit show happen.
If any of my midwestern hillbilly Trump-loving relatives start bragging about this over Christmas, it’s going to take a force of will not to punch them in their own home.
Name and shame
I think Josh Marshall and Matthew Yglesias had the most accurate take on this “tax bill”: it’s a heist. They’re looting America and getting out while the getting’s good. Why do you think Paul Ryan’s planning to retire at the end of next year?
