Wow; if you were still a punk by the time The Cure started, you probably hadn’t got punk.
Falsetto is evil. It is pretty much literally defined as “singing so high that your voice sounds bad.” A couple of falsetto notes, as part of telling a story, can work. If you are singing more than a few notes of your song in falsetto, your song is automatically bad.
What about Nick Cave? He can tell a story, sure, and he’s good at it. His singing could remove rust from agricultural machinery.
I ought to add - brilliantly. As opposed to Bob Dylan, who could remove agricultural machinery and leave little piles of rust - awfully.
Thank you.
Humans have used static rhythms to induce trances since we first started making music, differing tempos and harmonies disrupt that. Those appeal more to the intellect.
I don’t know if ya’ll’re ready for this, but uh, I find Phil Collins’ music to be interesting musically & lyrically, to span a respectable swath of the pop/rock spectrum, to evoke emotion that is not treacly and to be fun.
I’ve been a big Genesis fan ever since the release of their 1980 album Duke. Before that, I really didn’t understand any of their work. It was too artsy, too intellectual…
Uncanny Frankie Valli?
John Williams just copied Holst.
Secret Agent Jazz Flute is a completely different genre!
Not all Phil Collins music is “You’ll be in my Heart”. But I don’t know if I can ever forgive him for the fact that “You’ll be in my Heart” is.
Everything about the band “iwrestledabearonce”.
Green Jello does not suck.
Bwahahahahaha!!!
Has anyone ever seen Tom Waits and @Donald_Petersen in the same room? Hmm…
I don’t (and never did) like Pearl Jam or Nirvana.
Pearl Jam was a better band when it was called Mother Love Bone, but they still sucked.
I beg to differ. He also copied some Stravinsky and Wagner.
What is an “unpopular music opinion” depends on your audience, no? For example I absolutely despise, loathe, detest Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You”. Worst song ever.
That would get me hated in some quarters…
Nirvana I will give credit for having catchy hooks but they always come off sounding like a heavy metal REM to me and just not my thing.
Pearl Jam was just so overplayed on the radio I never felt the need to buy CD even though I kinda liked them.
