There’s a game as a service that I enjoyed that no longer exists. I still think about it and I wish I could pick it up and play it occasionally, but I can’t. I really feel for the people that are about to experience that.

This is why I won’t play any game that doesn’t run locally on a device I own. I know that increasingly limits my options, but it’s better than having the rug pulled out from under me (however slowly and respectfully it’s done) after investing hours of gameplay.

If I’m going to worry about a service being yanked, it will be one I depend on. Goggle gives me more than enough anxiety in that department.

Another reminder that you no longer own your entertainment, you only license it.

I’m bummed.
I’m a huge Simpsons fan, and this game dropped right as I was going through my divorce and helped me get through that.
I’m sad to see it go.

Word.
Our University is switching away from Google in the not too distant future because of overlap with MS products and money is money.
Never mind that using Outlook is like poking myself in the eye. And no I do NOT want to save “to OneDrive.”

It’s really going to affect a lot of my less tech savvy colleagues who are going to have to transition.

I just had a new PC built with Windows 11 and Office 2021. I still use Thunderbird and am trying to find time to delete the whole OneDrive account. I already loaded a couple of apps against Defender’s objections so the GUI functions mostly like the Windows 7ish menus.
I have some non-mainstream apps coming my way so I don’t have to deal with the vile industry monsters like Adobe. I even got a large C drive so I can load Linux as an option.

This was one freemium “game” that was not awful… my suspicion is that is why it’s being shut down.

I feels a bit like going to your dealer and having him say “Oh they’re not going to be making crack anymore.”

There are a lot of games that are impossible to play now. I kind of miss some of the games on Prodigy. Mad Maze of course, but there was also a stock trading game that was fun in the way that computer blackjack is fun.

I am pretty upset about this. After 12 years, I still play every 4 hours (gotta flip Yahweh for those free donuts!). I’ll be sending Homer to pick up trash until they cut me off in January.

As far as freemium games go, I think I gave them a total of $120 over the decade+…I probably should have given more, seeing as how I logged hundreds (thousands?) of hours on the thing.

It is very unsettling to be woken up in the middle of the night by a push notification of Homer saying “Visitors? I better put on pants”.

And that is why I have always muted my phone before bed

I worked language QA for this game for a while! It was challenging fun to get all those pop culture references into German alive. It also made me feel old because I had to explain to the whole (much younger) international team that “X is PEOPLE” is a movie reference
