soooo much RAMONES goodness - a few examples:
Surfin’ Bird
Spiderman
Let’s Dance
California Sun
R.A.M.O.N.E.S. (C.J. on vocals)
bonus cut Motorhead’s original - which sounds like it should be a cover of a Ramones original

deepest apologies to Ms.Jones!
(what can I say, I’m a child of the 80’s, so the new wave cover came 1st to mind)
Although to be honest, I’d bet when they made their version Shades Apart was also referencing Soft Cell & not the original
Interesting. I came up with this one:
thank you. as a Reno resident, i came here to be sure that 7 Seconds was represented. <3
Hungry Like the Wolf by Reel Big Fish
Less than Jake’s version of “I Think I Love You.”
Not sure if Incubus is a punk band, but their cover of “Turning Japanese” is pretty punky.
Goldfinger do Nena’s 99 Red Ballons
And I love’s Sonic Youth’s cover of Plastic Bertrand’s Ça plane pour moi:
Lots of folks know Social Distortion’s cover of Ring of Fire
I prefer their cover of Under My Thumb
Oh god. I guess…they are trying to be dark??? I never thought I’d hear a bubbly cover of Heroin. **
Ghoti Hook’s album Songs We Didn’t Write has some good ones. And there’s a whole series of Punk Goes Pop albums (as well as Punk Goes Metal, Punk Goes 90’s, Punk Goes Country, etc.) and they are fun to listen to.
The other way round - conventional folk singer covers song from punk band:
I love The Cramps! RIP Lux!
Not quite a cover, but Iggy Pop has a Louie Louie…
I am stretching the rules past the breaking point, but any excuse to post the Pain Teen’s (not punk) cover of Leonard Cohen’s (not pop) Story of Issac:
Seasons in the Sun
I love their Unplugged cover of the Vaselines’ “Jesus Doesn’t Want Me for a Sunbeam”:
Kris Novoselic’s accordion playing really makes the song. Of course it’s debatable whether the Vaselines count as pop (or glam-era Bowie, for that matter).
I do think Nirvana’s cover of “Here She Comes Now” is probably my favorite cover of a VU song:
I am disappoint… 61 comments in and no Laibach…
Their cover of One Vision, Ein Geburter Nation:
Across the Universe:
Sympathy for the Devil:
Final Countdown:
The Lonely Goatherd:
Ballad of a Thin Man:
And B Mashina (which is by a Slovenian rock band, Siddharta):
They even did a cover of 4:33 (which might not be safe for work):
