Opening and closing, or rather changing size? What an oddly specific qualitative distinction. I would say that overall my experience with a smart phone isn’t better or worse than that of a flip phone, it’s just different. A smart phone enables me to do more in some ways and less in others.
This smacks to me of “what I grew up with is better than what we have now”-ism, which is perpetual in tone and constantly shifting in focus.

Not to mention the flip-phone “era” specialized storage accommodations made for them in clothing (ex: my Wilson leather jacket inner extra pocket) and pockets in portfolios and attaché cases.
