Soviet Union's first electric car, Avtotor Amber, set to revolutionize the roads

From what I can see, I can state the following:

  • It doesn’t seem to be a hoax, but the usual Russian sources seem to be quiet, indicating that the negative reception shocked the makers.
  • The design seems to be that they took a normal car chassis and then placed it on top of a battery and drivetrain chassis. It looks like a solid brick under the entire vehicle.
  • By simply tacking a standard compact on top of the battery pack, the headlights of the car on top look dinkier.

This looks somehow… unripe. But possible that the “made only with Russian parts” also means with the classic Russian disregard for aesthetics.

There are definitely large parts taken from other cars but it looks like more than just a simple lifting up of an existing car chassis to make room for batteries underneath. Over at the Autopian people have identified the greenhouse, doors, mirrors and part of the fender as coming from a Lada Vesta. And they seem to think that the headlights are 4" aftermarket motorcycle headlights from Amazon. The lights definitely weren’t from a Lada.

Not to worry. Clearance will increase when its Russian battery explodes and sends Amber straight up into the air.
