Spanish government announces plan to seize power in Catalonia, remove elected government

Actually, while I was born in Spain, I am currently a US citizen. I was born in a region of Spain, the Alto Aragon, that has been together with Catalan lands since 880 years ago, even before all the current Catalonian land was conquered from the Muslims, and even before all the Catalonian counties were joined together under the same ruler.

I find sad and incomprehensible that, after this much time together, some Catalans want to break away from their roots and their history, and that people that were supposed to be so proud of their constitutionalism are so ready to discard the rule of law. I have relatives in Catalonia and in the rest of Spain, and my Catalan cousins are very afraid of what the nationalists are trying to do.

You know, snark aside, the important thing about triggering article 155 is to hold new elections and returning the Catalans to autonomy. While the current government will be not able to run, nor suggest or support a candidate formally, this not really how to dispute the validity of the Catalan’s right to Catalunya.

I don’t know why it’s so hard to see that both sides in this conflict were trying to escalate the situation, and thus are both arseholes. They’re fuckers, playing on fears, not hope.
