Marrero’s background is in Navy intelligence, and she earned a master’s degree in business administration with a concentration in information security and digital management

The fuck? How can you either be so clueless or so cavalier about OPSEC when you are a Navy officer AND have literally studied information security?

ETA: also, how can you be so clueless in business matters that you allow people to pay a relatively low one-time fee to finance a service that has a high monthly subscription fee when you have a master’s in business administration?

That was not the case aboard Manchester, where Marrero set up payment plans for the chief’s mess to pay for the system — either $62.50 a month or a one-time fee of $375 — that the ship’s Chief Petty Officer Association treasurer collected into a chiefs mess checking account.

She wasn’t an officer, she was (I think) the most senior enlisted servicemember on the ship.

Led by the senior enlisted leader of the ship’s gold crew, then-Command Senior Chief Grisel Marrero, the effort roped in the entire chiefs mess by the time it was uncovered a few months later.

Given how highly qualified she is, she might have looked down on the ship’s officers and believed that she could get away with it because she was smarter than them and they would never find out if her buddies in the chiefs mess kept their mouths shut.

MI6 and CIA using generative AI to combat tech-driven threat actors

CIA director Bill Burns and UK Secret Intelligence Service (SIS) chief Richard Moore have for the first time penned a joint opinion piece in which the two spookmasters reveal their agencies have adopted generative AI.

“We are now using AI, including generative AI, to enable and improve intelligence activities – from summarization to ideation to helping identify key information in a sea of data,” the pair wrote in the Financial Times.
