My knowledge of Northern Ireland leads me to believe that when you are facing an opponent with many multiple times the power and influence you have, the elements in security weeding out (killing) traitors are very likely to be traitors.

Not that they don’t sometimes kill some of their own side just to be sure/because that’s how intelligence works/because the paymasters don’t care about lives of a certain kind of people.
