A staple in the Bay Area music scene. Very happy trails to you Master Pharoah.
“His most recent album, the collaborative LP Promises with Floating Points and the London Symphony Orchestra, came out in 2021.”
It’s a phenomenal album. Please listen to it
Just re-listened to Karma in light of the news and to me he was someone who tried to minimise the gap between what he wanted to say and what he said in his music.
I had the good fortune to see him play at the Blue Note in NYC back in '96. Not sure which of his albums was my favorite, probably Journey to the One or Tauhid. My gateway to Pharoah Sanders was Sonny Sharrock’s Ask the Ages. (Found out a few years later that Sharrock had played on Tauhid.) Someone online, way back when, recommended Franklin Kiermyer’s Solomon’s Daughter with Sanders which I will second.
