That’s a good point. There’s an expansion issue with freezing, though.

Also, there’s the possibility that the weight could get concentrated if the water collects in a location. Imagine that the weight of the snow causes a small buckling that creates a slight depression in the middle of the roof, now it starts melting and the melted water flows to the central spot causing more buckling…
