Strong recommend for the book Fordlandia. It’s a really great read. It really brings home the hubris and ignorance of the robber barons. They really thought they had dominion over everything and couldn’t imagine the world having other ideas. The jungle kicks the living shit out of them, but in ways that were so incredibly predictable to anyone reading about it now. On every page you’ll ask, “They did what?!” then when it fails you’ll say, “Of course that didn’t work. What were they thinking?”.
It’s hubris all the way down. Great read and a reminder of why we mustn’t let billionaires run things.
