☭ Sup Marxists? ☭

People who think in terms of “rugged individualists” and “hate us for our freedumbs” are incapable of feeling shame, so I don’t think the futility of the trolley bothered them any.

I suppose we can expect to see a lot of Vader88 -themed posting and gamergator nicks being registered as we speak.

Excuse me this is actually about ethics in White Supremacy.

As if “white” or “supremacy” were even real things!

I think that many libertarians are dumb, but that libertarianism is a necessary step to any practical egalitarian system. The problem is that in a society which lacks respect for individualistic social choices, there is no possible way for a person to choose, for example, to live a communist life. Individualism seems to be a prerequisite to being able to freely organize, and without organizing, the only collective life people can have is that which is imposed upon them. This is why totalitarian systems on the left and the right strive to limit individual choice and participation, and why prior attempts at communism-in-name-only have not been truly egalitarian societies. Individual choices are only as stupid and/or selfish as the individuals who make them.

To me libertarianism upends Maslows hierarchy of needs, thinking that if we have the ability to self-actualize then that will somehow lead to safety and food on the table. Sartre thought he would still be free if he was put in chains because his mind would be free, but that is nonsense. As if slaves were slaves because they chose not to escape slavery, or those who are very impoverished chose that for themselves.

There is intention and then there is physical reality. You can’t eat if there is no food to be eaten. The freedoms we value in North American culture don’t mean much to subsistence farmers. We evolved out of a system of anarchy, into a system of individual decision making, into a system of collective decision making, I have no interest in going backwards.

I think we’ve already established that you and I have very different views of reality and that you would be more likely to agree with Sartre. To me, “freedom” is worthless if you don’t have the capacity to exercise it. Libertarianism, in every form I’ve ever seen discussed, would devolve into totalitarianism in short order as some individual or group of individuals consolidated power (whether power was money, guns, or even just plain old community standing).

Getting used to responsibility is a tough one…

Is that a sick burn?

No offence but I don’t understand the term.

Randroids, Masters of Capital, and Rugged Individualists as far as the eye can see.

Alright, in long form: I wondered if I was supposed to interpret some indication of a defect in either my intellectual position or my character from your statement, and, more generally, what the intended meaning of your one sentence reply was. If it bears no further comment or was merely sound poetry, that’s fine too.

No ad hominem intended.

Merely that socialism, or as you put it, an inverted Maslow triangle teaches a lack of personal responsibility.

Learning to find your own food, fuel and shelter builds character. From that you have a basis for the higher human exploits.

That’s what hobbies like mountaineering are for.

Hobbies are for decadent western Capitalists with too much stolen blood on their hands.

Haha!

You still have to pay for boots, rope and really good clothing. …otherwise you die.
