Haters still gonna hate
Alabama’s holiday is one of the most unique. The third Monday in February is officially celebrated as George Washington/Thomas Jefferson Day in Alabama. Jefferson, a Virginian, was the third U.S. president and principal author of the Declaration of Independence. The inclusion of Jefferson and omission of Lincoln seems a subtle snub at the Illinois Republican who led the Union during its war against the Alabama and the rest of the Confederacy.
The combination of Washington and Jefferson is an odd one, timewise - Jefferson’s birthday isn’t until April 13.
Alabama is the only state to combine Washington and Jefferson, though no state that was part of the Confederacy mentions Lincoln by name as part of its Presidents Day holiday.
Still, not quite as bad as MLK / Robert E Lee Day, I guess…?
I’d like to get President’s Day off, whatever it’s called.
It amazes and saddens me to see the animus that Lincoln generated still moves people to oppose him.

Both go suspiciously out of their way to avoid discussing why Lincoln would be worthy to honor.
heh. I’d like to see these
Philanthropist David Rubenstein… is giving $18 million to fix up the Lincoln Memorial… The memorial is built on pilings, and the park service is going to explore ways for visitors to see the foundations that anchor the memorial to the bedrock. The unseen superstructure is marked with graffiti from the workers who built the memorial over a seven-year period, including caricatures of former President William Howard Taft and memorial architect Henry Bacon.
The inclusion of Jefferson and omission of Lincoln seems less like a subtle snub and more like a giant banner reading “Celebrate Slavery”.
Now, now, now… heritage not hate, okay? /s
While we were in Kentucky, Louisville, the place seemed almost… embarrassed to be near the birthplace of Lincoln.
Everywhere however it was proclaimed loud and clear that “My Old Kentucky Home” was composed there… priorities I guess?
I’m sure if I looked deep enough into the life and actions of Lincoln there would be a lot I didn’t like about him.
What I find a lot harder to take, honestly, is reverence for Jefferson. None of us can help the times we live in, but it seems to me people ought to temper their hard-ons for historical figures with reality, even if those figures couldn’t help that reality.
When you put and “I love Jefferson” sticker next to a “Boo Lincoln” one, though, I can’t think of a lot of ways to read it.
Probably has to do with the Declaration of Independence.
I am a victim, witness and informant to subversive activities and efforts organized by law Colleges, State and Federal Bar Associations,to attack our constitutional form of government and subversively, secretly force socialism, communism and imperialism types of government onto the people of the United States of America.

Given her expertise in constitutional law and land-use rights, I can’t see how she’d be wrong, here.
Cox also claims federal workers who still cannot return to their workplace at the Malheur Wildlife Refuge, simply decided not to work during the occupation.
“It was their choice not to come to work out of guilty,” she writes.
