Somebody is looking for a demo unit for poolside reading this Summer …
Bistability (the ability to persist an image without sustaining power) is the attractive attribute of an e-paper display. Without that, what’s the point of monochrome LCD?
Looks like those old monochrome passive matrix LCD displays from the 90s.
It’s one of the attractive attributes… the other would be high-contrast for readability. The HDMI-in feature suggests that one might use this close to a power source anyway, so power consumption seems like less of an issue when you don’t have to think about battery life.
Thinking of this as a second monitor, it might be a nice low-strain way to read longform articles from websites. My first-gen OLPC, despite being a pretty miserable general web browsing device, was perfect for this.
