Using that as an excuse to expand this a bit…
Charter schools aren’t the only places denied access to decent textbooks.

Of course parents are legally allowed to indoctrinate their kids pretty much however they wish. In many cases that’s fortunately not a problem but some kids just have really bad luck when it comes to their parents’ religious views.
All that’s telling me is that I never need to get off the interstate in Virginia, except maybe to go to DC or perhaps Virginia Beach.
Although I suppose that could be campy good, fun?
How else could you take it? Seriously that is just absurd enough I would totes go see that if I was passing through the area.
Yeah, on second glance, it seems more like absurdist humor than anything else.
You might find this interesting:
Yeah, basically the creator had built a roadside attraction of fiberglass dinosaurs that burned down, and when he rebuilt it he decided to just indulge his every wacky whim and create a whole insane storyline about Stonewall Jackson faking his death and getting a bionic arm to fight armored Yankee dinosaurs. Now I dunno about you, but fiberglass dinosaurs, I could take or leave. Armored battle-dinos eating the Gettysburg Address and battling the Rebels? That’s so bonkers that I want to drive to Virginia to see it.
Yeah, again, the more you guys describe, the more I’m in. Very much in the vein of American wacky roadside attractions.
The circumstances of the fire are interesting, probably involving someone who believes in what these fundie textbooks teach.
On April 9, 2001, a midnight fire destroyed Cline’s Enchanted Castle. While he watched it burn, he opened his roadside mailbox and found a handwritten note. It began, “In the name of the Father, Son & Holy Spirit” and ended, “Fire represents God’s judgment. Behold – The Judge is standing at the door.”
The whole story is interesting:
My (used) copy of The Kingdom of God Is Within You is stamped “TDCJ Approved,” for what that’s worth.
(If I had to guess, whoever approved it may not have gone any farther than the title.)
Went to an ACE school for four years of elementary. We worked on solidary cubicles. Not a joke. Was a year behind in math by 5th grade. Can’t believe it’s still legal education material.
Yesterday I added that to my reading list for the near future.
