The best photo book I never bought and have always regretted, was a collection of official Soviet Union pictures during the Stalin era. They were arranged in time series to show how the people around the great man disappeared as they became non-persons thanks to purges, and were air-brushed out of reality.
Orwell’s 1984 wasn’t science fiction, it was based on history.
