I ended up with a significant settlement from a Chicago-area datacenter for requiring handprint identification for access, without getting my express consent, which was apparently afoul of IL law. I thought it was the most random thing ever, but apparently these laws are more common than I had suspected.

But did they stop doing it without your consent?

Yes - they removed the requirement to use biometrics to gain access to the datacenter.

Did I miss it in the article? How and why does Facebook collect biometric data. And what kind of biometric data are we talking about.
