Texas school bans black clothing, believing it causes mental health problems

Yeah, Rudolf Steiner obviously had some very specific ideas about clothing (he thought it’s a replacement/representation of people’s „aura“), about what colours represent and will cause in kids, and which materials are appropriate.

There are Waldorf schools that follow Steiner’s ideas religiously, and they attract a bunch of parents that one might want to avoid, because that doesn‘t create a safe and inclusive atmosphere, and leads to bullying and other kinds of shit.

I found this article about Steiner’s ideas about colors and clothing, with a few anecdotes about schools and parents. It‘s in German, so you might have to use Google Translate.

That being said, these there are vast differences between those schools, one of my kids went to a Waldorf school for 2 years, and they were pretty relaxed about clothing and the other teachings of Rudolf S, and it was mostly kind people and a good place for kids, although a bit of a crank magnet, which is to be expected around here, but we could
live with that.

I think they were just worried about the effects on the new art teacher:

If we had auræ, we’d pay a fee on it, and the fee would be collected by the GEZ.

Ironic considering that conforming to arbitrary dress code rules with no evidence behind them is probably going to be a source of mental distress for a non-zero amount of students.
