I saw that piece and had to wonder if Stephens was gunning for Friedman’s spot as most idiotic NYT columnist. I’d say he was comparing apples to oranges, but the differences between the two countries in domestic politics, the nature of illegal crossings, and levels of militarisation on their frontiers would make that too kind an assessment.
