Indeed that is probably a good analog. Just as changing the orientation of a spaceship does nothing to change the direction that it is moving while in a vacuum, the Novogrod was prone to continuing on in the same direction after they had changed the direction that it was pointed. That actually made it more difficult to change the heading. Kind of like European (or IKEA) shopping carts where all the wheels swivel vs American ones where the rear wheels are fixed.
True, but timd and I weren’t discussing Star Wars.
The even older Lunar Lander game was purely physics based. Text-only to begin with, so not sure that really counts as a video game.
Colossal Cave, Adventure, and Zork frown on your shenanigans.
so long as it wasn’t teletype, video is correct.
The first one I saw was on a programmable calculator with an (I think) LED display, for what it’s worth.
i’m sure crosswords are even older. so, yes: not all text games are video games; nor are all video games text games. but the oldest lunar lander game was a text based video game.
Star Destroyers, hovering for years in a gravity well. That ain’t right
Probably why the human occupants prefer to do the piloting.
… a hovercraft, too.
