This sounds exactly like a “palanca” letter, known as a “lever” to “lift up”. Our kids’ old school organized a secular version of this for the 15 to 17 year olds. At a time when the teenagers were starting to think about their place in the world, these letters had a profound effect on their perception of what/who got them to this point in their lives.
