This is my neighborhood. We lived here for a couple years, walked right by it, and never noticed the phone until I’d read about it online. It’s near Koma, a nice cafe that serves cocktails. The city banned/restricted pesticides on lawns for cosmetic reasons in 2014, not sure if this is why, but it is noticeably chirpier with birdsong in the morning compared to areas of similar populations in the DC area.

Yeah, if I ever become dictator, I will re-install pay phones at public buildings like city hall, the library and the bus station. Probably won’t waste time with phone books, though.
