I wonder if anyone has done a mushroom fruiting body count at the edges of these rings, inside them, and outside. Fungus loves water and a deep fungal mat may be responsible for drawing water up higher than the natural water table.

Ever read Pat Cadigan’s Synners (review is not as positive as I would be) ? There’s a young female character that uses a modified body-powered insulin-pump (think “potato clock” needles stuck into her leg) as a computer, slightly disturbing older characters.
