Certainly one of the most patriotic studios I’ve ever seen.

The Rock rocks! (Not the animated Rock)

Counterpoint: The first of the Mummy trilogy has held up very well.

But it was all downhill from there.

I remember laughing during the preview when the announcer’s voice said “…and The Rock as The Scorpion King.” He seemed like such a goofy one-dimensional pro wrestling caricature at the time.

Little could I know Mr. Johnson would grow into a respected A-list Hollywood actor, even learning to sing for a leading role in an animated Disney movie.

So, they have fixed a cheap videogame looking character by making the guy look like a cheap plastic looking cheap videogame character by smoothing and erasing all the texture in his face … Progress!

I think the Mummy (first one) has held up very well. I know the SFX are noticeably aged, but the overall film is still a great adventure ride. Coincidentally, it is still one of the best theme park rides down in Universal Orlando.

Just curious - did you watch the video, or just judge their work on the thumbnail? Because in motion, their revision is way more believable because of the added specular reflections, and the fact that it actually looks like Dwayne Johnson. IMO, the original looked way more plasticky.
