A great point in so far as we contemporary folk see image capture as an instant process.
I’m thinking that all renderings of people in paintings is inherently political given the time and economy of the process… these aren’t snapshots of time.

It looks to me like horror, mixed with ‘WTF have I done’…
Still, it’s a haunting image, & the artist is a master, judging by the images others have provided.
