I’m thinking that all renderings of people in paintings is inherently political given the time and economy of the process… these aren’t snapshots of time.

It’s a magnificent painting.
It looks to me like horror, mixed with ‘WTF have I done’…
Still, it’s a haunting image, & the artist is a master, judging by the images others have provided.
