Some of those Flags of Russia examples would not look out of place on medieval shields.
I like the Hawaiian flag for being werid
I’m certainly jealous of Chicago’s flag. Cleveland’s is such an abomination that people are more likely to fly neighborhood flags than the city’s. I wish our city flag was better because we have an awesome state flag, but I take no joy in the Ohio part of Cleveland, Ohio.

That’s a bit of a shame, because it would be relatively easy to fix:
At some point in the future we’ll celebrate the great Hawaiian/Franco/UK/Russian alliance, but only if they recruit a better graphic designer.
So the state i grew up in in Venezuela had a pretty normal state flag:

What I’m learning here is that many more places than I thought use Clip Art to design their flags.
Around the time I became interested in Russian flags was also when I got into the coats of arms of European cities. Just google image search “coat of arms” and the city, provides lots of interesting shields. (That one I linked to reminds of a beer label, but I can’t place which one.)
